Non-Toxic Makeup Review

By In Natural Beauty, Wholesome101 — December 21, 2016

Today’s topic is clean, cruelty-free, and non-toxic makeup. We are always looking for natural/organic makeup that will improve our skin. Our goal is to avoid any toxins in our beauty and skincare products, and also to share that natural and organic makeup can perform just as well as conventional makeups.

Naima~

One of my favorite beauty brands is Physicians Formula because they are affordable and it does wonders on my skin. Today I’ll be discussing the tinted moisturizer and the CC cream.

Physicians Formula

Tinted Moisturizer

1.The tinted moisturizer ($12 for 2.4 oz) is lightweight and doesn’t leave my skin feeling or looking flaky. Even though it is light, you can tell that you have applied something on to your skin because your skin feels nourished and looks brighter in its complexion. My skin is clear with no blemishes alhamdulilah, and I have combination skin type. The problem I had was that my face was looking dull at times, so I was looking for something that would improve my dullness. This product did the trick. After I clean my face with my favorite skincare product, I first apply my Josie Moran Argan oil, then I apply this tinted moisturizer. Using my fingers, I apply the moisturizer in a circular motion until it evenly blends into my skin.It comes in 4 shades (ivory to fair-fair to light-light to natural- natural to tan). This is more for everyday wear. Amazon.com

This is what it claims:

“It hydrates skin and evens out skin tone with sheer and natural coverage. Infused with Organic Fruit Water to help nourish and restore skin’s moisture balance. SPF 15 naturally protects skin from environmental damage for a healthy-looking complexion. It has jojoba seed oil, sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, and Shea butter to moisturize the skin.Infused with chamomile, calendula and vitamin E, this soft antioxidant-rich cream foundation conceals and conditions skin. Jojoba oil moisturizes and helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Mineral pigments blend smoothly to match skin tone for a radiant-looking complexion. Get a full coverage, velvety finish with no stickiness. Flawless, weightless, effortless…done!” www.physiciansformula.com

CC Color + Correction Cream

2. The CC cream ($8.99 for 2.2 oz), color + correction cream, is another nourishing and hydrating cream. I love how it smoothly  blends into to my skin. It’s not heavy makeup, which I love, and it gives my skin a nice glow. It gives a light to medium coverage, which some people don’t like. However, I like my makeup to be light/medium coverage, so this is perfect for my skin. I follow the same routine as above when I apply this product. My face feels smooth and looks hydrated once I apply this product. amazon.com

Here is what it claims:

“Color-correction and skin-nourishing benefits from natural and organic ingredients deliver brightening and complexion-enhancing properties for naturally perfected skin. Ultra-lightweight cream glides on effortlessly, evening out skin tone and texture for a radiant and youthful glow. Infused with chamomile, calendula and vitamin E, this soft antioxidant-rich cream foundation conceals and conditions skin. Jojoba oil moisturizes and helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Mineral pigments blend smoothly to match skin tone for a radiant-looking complexion. Get a full coverage, velvety finish with no stickiness. Jane Iredale

Glow Time BB Cream

If you are someone who is into organic/natural makeup, you might have heard of the Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream by Jane Iredale. If not, then allow me to let you in on this bad boy.

Let me start off by saying that this product is on the pricey side at $48 on most sites (you can find it a little bit cheaper on overstock.com, which is where I purchased mine). This BB cream is nothing like any other BB cream that I have used in the past. It’s thick in consistency and it is full coverage, so a little goes a very long way. I like the fact that it’s buildable, so you can easily achieve full coverage and it is perfect for covering blemishes.

I have oily skin but I still moisturize with marula or rosehip oil prior to applying this product, just like if I were applying a foundation.  I create my shade by mixing BB6 and BB11 (which have a yellow undertone). I find that it’s best applied with a dampened Beauty Blender or some kind of makeup sponge. It’s good for all skin types, although if you have oily skin I would recommend that you set it with a powder. There are nine shades to from which to choose BB1, BB3, BB5, BB6, BB7, BB8, BB9, BB11, BB12.

Here is what it claims:

“All-natural minerals adjust to your unique skin tone to cover blemishes, minimize the appearance of pores and wrinkles, smooth and brighten skin. Glow Time nourishes your complexion and protects from UV and free-radical damage. Anti-aging ingredients help control oil and minimize environmental damage its silky fresh formula does not block pores.”www.janeirdale.com

Contains broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sun protection.

Water resistant to 40 minutes.

Minimizes pores and helps disguise fine lines and wrinkles.

Smoothes and brightens skin.

Non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, sensitivity tested, clinically tested, dermatologist tested.

SPF 17 broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sun protection.

Pros.                                                                Cons.

Buildable                                                  Expensive

SPF 25

Skin care Plus makeup

I really enjoy this BB cream. Even though it’s expensive, I believe it’s worth every penny! I love the way it applies and feels on my skin.  This product is skin care plus makeup so I definitely love the way my skin feels after I wash it off. It is a great product to have in my non-toxic makeup collection.

Honest Beauty

Everything Cream Foundation

As the name suggests, this foundation is a cream foundation. It comes in a beautiful magnetic, silver compact with a mirror and sponge applicator. This is the first cream foundation in my collection, so I was eager to try it out.

If you’re nervous about cream foundations, not to worry.  This one is easy to apply and goes on smoothly with a buffing brush or a beauty blender. It is a medium to full coverage foundation. As I do for all foundations, I apply oil to my face first. I have the shade “camel,” which has a yellow undertone. I do find it to be a tad too light for my skin tone, but once I warm up my face with a bronzer it’s fine. There are eight shades from which to choose, with a price point of $30.

Here is what it claims

“Infused with chamomile, calendula and vitamin E, this soft antioxidant-rich cream foundation conceals and conditions skin. Jojoba oil moisturizes and helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Mineral pigments blend smoothly to match skin tone for a radiant-looking complexion. Get a full coverage, velvety finish with no stickiness. Flawless, weightless, effortless…done!” www.honestbeauty.com

Pros.                                                                         Cons.

Easy application                                             Not enough shades

Easy for travels

I like foundations that are buildable, so this product gives me the ability to do that. The fact that it’s cream makes it easy for traveling. Overall, it is a great product that gives a flawless finish in a chic package.

Honest Beauty

Concealer Duo

It comes in a smaller compact packaging that is same as the foundation. Mine is in the shade “Disappearing Dune.” There are two shades. The lighter shade is designed for the under eye, while the darker shade is meant for concealing spots.  It’s creamy and it’s easy to apply under the eyes. The concealer is at a price of point of $20, with five shades from which to choose.

Here is what it claims:

“Chamomile, calendula and jojoba oil infused concealer invisibly blends into skin. Combats uneven looking skin tone and under eye dark circles. Our concealer makeup offers a smooth finish to prevent caking or creasing. Combine the two shades for a perfect match every time.” www.honestbeauty.com

Pros.                                                                            Cons.

Easy application                                               Not enough shades

Beautiful packaging

I love that this concealer comes in two shades. It gives you the option to mix and match or simply use it separately in order to highlight with the lighter shade, and conceal problematic areas with the darker one. You achieve a creamy, beautiful finish that is easy to apply. This is an awesome product to have in my collection.

What if you don’t use oil before you apply it? Will it be different on the face?

We both use oils before we apply anything to our face. You can try without it, we just prefer using oils 🙂
