As salamu aleykum warahmatullahi wabarakatu. My name is Anisa Gurase, I’m a mom of three and my goal is to be a fit mom.
Weight loss journey:
My weight has always been up and down and in the past. I never had problem losing weight; the problem was keeping it off. However, having gone through three pregnancies, I found it harder to loose the weight because like most people I assumed my body would just “bounce back”
It took me sometime to realize that it’s quite natural for our bodies to go through drastic changes after pregnancies and childbirth. Some people need little time to get to their pre-pregnancy weight and others need longer time. I have come to realize that nothing happens overnight. Most things in life need your dedication and hard work to get the results you need. So I mentally and physically prepared myself for a long and steady weight loss journey.
I started with making small nutritional changes. I included more fruits and veggies into my diet, lean proteins, whole grains and drank a lot of water. I wanted to start with changes that I can sustain for life, which meant no fad diets or anything that will be restricting. I started to feel the benefits of eating healthier; I felt happier, had more energy and I was more productive and less stressed out during the day.
Once I managed to make healthier nutritional choices, I slowly incorporated exercise. I first turned to the Internet and researched many workout programs that I can do at home. However, I quickly realized that it wasn’t for me (only because I was easily distracted). So I found a gym in my neighborhood that offered many fitness classes such as spin, Zumba, and kickboxing but more importantly it had a childcare facility. My children don’t know this, but they motivate me to not miss gym time because they love attending the childcare center. They love the indoor playroom and socializing with other children. Having a gym that provides childcare takes away that extra stress of having to find a sitter.
Believe in yourself:
You need to know that some days will be harder than others but you have to remind yourself why you are doing this and push through. You have to love and appreciate your body and all that you are capable of. If you are like me and are experiencing a slow progress, let me reassure you that slow progress is better than no progress. Find something or someone that motivates you or inspires in the best way possible. Many sisters, who I’ve met on social media that promote healthy living and share their fitness journey online, inspire me. I have established a connection with them and I believe you need to be inspired to do your best.
I’m not anywhere near my fitness goal but everyday I am getting healthier and stronger. My confidence has improved, my skin has cleared up, I am getting a better night sleep and I have more energy. My advice to anyone who is thinking about making a lifestyle change is to start today, don’t wait for tomorrow.
